Sridevi Dance Academy
About

Where science meets sacred dance

Sridevi Dance Academy is founded and led by Sridevi Thyagarajan — a classical Bharatanatyam dancer whose career bridges the precision of pharmaceutical microbiology with the expressive depth of the art.

Sridevi Thyagarajan

Sridevi Thyagarajan, founder and guru.

Sridevi began learning classical dance at the age of four and trained for two decades in Bharatanatyam, performing across India, Dubai, and Lexington, Kentucky. She learned Bharatanatyam from Guru Kalamandalam Vishalaksy Raman and is currently learning under Kalamandalam Aiswaria Ramesh.

Her parallel career is currently in pharmaceutical microbiology, where she works as a Senior Supervisor. The lab’s discipline maps directly onto how she teaches dance: name every step, measure every outcome, repeat until it’s right.

The academy she founded brings both halves of that life into one studio. Beginners learn the same precise vocabulary as advanced students; advanced students learn to articulate why the vocabulary works. Curriculum is structured. Performance opportunities are real. Progress is honest.

“The precision required in scientific research mirrors the discipline needed in classical dance. Both demand unwavering attention to detail, patience, and a deep respect for tradition.”
— Sridevi Thyagarajan

Teaching philosophy

Three principles that shape every class

Discipline

Years of laboratory practice and decades of dance training converge in a single principle: nothing replaces patient repetition.

Tradition with rigor

We honor the lineage of guru-shishya parampara while applying structured pedagogy — every adavu named, every bhava deconstructed.

Holistic growth

Students leave understanding rhythm, language, and breath — not just choreography. The body is one instrument; awareness is another.
